History of the Inn

In 1776 Dr. Elkanah Hodges lived in his home on nearby Hodges Hill Road and located his general store here at Mount Pleasant in what is now the kitchen wing of the farmhouse. This was the only part of the farmhouse that existed at that time, and the rest of the farmhouse was built later in the mid 1800's. The Deming family purchased the property in the early 1900’s and ran it as a dairy farm for 80 years. The current farmhouse has been completely renovated but still retains the character of its history. The Inn at Mount Pleasant is also just around the corner from the home of the famous abolitionist John Brown, who was born there on May 9, 1800.
